Basic Concepts of WikiPLACE, a system for Wiki-Based Pattern Language Adaptive Calculator of Externalities.
THE GENERAL GOAL
Develop a SFW system (and SFW capabilities along the way) that can create quick, user-friendly, powerful scenario models that are able to manage, transform and display metrics, following the changes that are predicted by peer-reviewed research (and further refined by empirical confirmation).
THE SPECIFIC GOAL
Develop a SFW system that can model GHG emissions (with the capability to model other metrics in due course) as they are changed as a result of alternative planning scenarios.
Variations will occur when input metrics are specified or calibrated at a given stage. Examples might include local baseline rates, per capita urban density, or mix of energy sources.
Variations will occur when new “patterns” are added, which change the features of the scenario. For example, patterns might include “attached housing,” “tall buildings,” and “1/4 Mile Town Center.”
THE ASSUMED PARAMETERS
1. All metrics are tracked as “per capita” (the most meaningful basis).
2. Each pattern displays a baseline product which can be manipuated to adjust output.
3. Adding another pattern grabs the output from the pattern to the left, and applies a function (or functions), which produces a delta corresponding to deltas predicted by research.
4. Users can quickly add patterns by clicking on the hyperlinks (or by dragging from a menu?)
5. The resulting displays are updated in real time.
THE NEXT PHASE OF RESEARCH
Develop 15-20 patterns (target, or as required) based on a project (hypothetical or better yet, actual). Develop their capabilities and essential features, so that they demonstrate the capacity of the system.
See WikiPLACE Report for recent progress.
FEATURES DESIRED
Toggle view: switches to a network map that allows mouse-over identification of the model under construction
Network structure – not just serial right-to-left, but also overlapping relationships. (How are these displayed? Assembled?
